How to Plan a Cleaning Visit When You Have Pets

Agree on where pets will spend the visit

Choose an arrangement that works for you, your pets, and the company's visit requirements. This might mean a designated room, an outing with you, or another arrangement agreed in advance. Explain which doors must stay closed and whether any room will be unavailable for cleaning. Do not assume the cleaner will supervise, relocate, or handle an animal during the appointment.

Make the arrival and exit instructions explicit

Tell the company if a pet tends to approach an open door or react to visitors. Confirm which entrance to use and how you want arrival communicated. Keep pet instructions with the ordinary access plan so they are not missed in a separate conversation. If you will be away, make sure the agreed pet arrangement is in place before the cleaner arrives.

Describe the cleaning priorities without assumptions

Identify areas where fur or tracked-in dirt tends to collect, such as entryways, favorite resting spots, and accessible floor edges. Ask which surfaces can be included and whether upholstery or rug requests require a separate service. Put toys and loose pet belongings away from the cleaning areas. Discuss litter boxes, feeding equipment, and other pet-specific tasks explicitly rather than assuming they belong to household cleaning.

Share preferences and plan the return to rooms

Discuss product preferences or household instructions ahead of time so the company can confirm what it can accommodate. Ask when pets can return to areas being cleaned and follow the provider's instructions for any separate carpet or rug service. After the first visit, review whether the room arrangement worked. Update the plan if a pet, entry routine, or preferred resting area changes.
