Defining additional work

How to Plan Cleaning Extras Without Losing Your Main Priorities

An extra cleaning request can be worthwhile when it addresses a specific need. The key is to describe it early and understand how it fits with the rest of the appointment. A useful add-on plan protects the routine tasks you still want completed that day.

Turn the wish list into named tasks

Write down the item, location, and intended result for each request. 'Inside the empty kitchen refrigerator' is more useful than 'extra kitchen cleaning.' Avoid assuming that deep cleaning, move-out cleaning, or a first visit automatically includes a particular extra. The company must confirm which requested tasks it offers and how they will be included in the proposal.

  • Identify the exact appliance, cabinet, window, or surface.
  • Describe whether contents will be removed beforehand.
  • Mention care instructions or access limitations.

Rank extras by the reason you need them

Separate time-sensitive needs from tasks that can wait. An empty appliance before move-in may be a higher priority than detail work in a rarely used room. Choose the few additions that matter most if the entire list does not fit the available appointment or budget. Ask whether the remainder should be scheduled separately rather than assuming the cleaner can squeeze it in.

Agree on preparation and handling

Some requests depend on the area being empty or accessible. Confirm who will remove food, dishes, personal items, or shelf contents and when that preparation must happen. Discuss whether items will be put back and by whom. If moving furniture or disconnecting equipment is involved, ask specifically about that boundary; cleaning a surface does not automatically include preparing every obstacle around it.

Confirm how the visit changes

Ask for the updated scope and price before treating an extra as part of the booking. Clarify whether it adds to the existing work or replaces something you had planned to include. Keep a short final list showing the main cleaning priorities and confirmed additions. If another request occurs to you on cleaning day, discuss it first and accept that it may need a later appointment.
